Information about OCLC -Print & Publishing Unit

This unit combines Desktop Publishing, Graphic Design and Printery. The function of each section are listed below.

Desktop Publishing

  • Prepare learning material manuscripts for print production. This includes typing of text and equations, tables and diagrams (including chemical structures), formatting/layout into templates using a range of software.
    • Materials submitted either on disc or hard copy that require formatting, are prepared to a print ready stage by experienced desktop publishing staff.
    • For those that prefer to format unit content themselves to produce a print ready document, may wish to utilise our Title & Verso , Standard Format and Standard template.
  • Conversion of materials to html and pdf formats.
  • Preparation of readings as a digital file including scanning, cleaning up, de-skewing images and then preparation with Word files into a digital file for print.

Graphic Design

Graphic Design offers a broad range of design services for teaching materials, publications and promotional material.

  • Design of course images to be utilised across a range of media ensuring appropriate branding, client requirements and quality standards are maintained.
  • Creation of graphic elements for use within learning materials such as illustrations, diagrams, high quality colour scanning.
  • Development of textual formats to be utilised as templates.
  • Design of administrative and promotional materials.

Printery

The Printery uses digital printing solutions and a colour copier capable of receiving electronic files.

  • Production of learning materials for distribution to off-campus, on-campus and off-shore students.
    • Learning materials can be delivered to any campus at no extra cost.
  • Production of stationery to meet Gippsland Campus needs.
  • Production of high quality digital black & white copies.
  • Production of high quality colour copies.
    • Copies are available to students and staff for personal copying.
    • Requests should be made at the Gippsland reception desk
  • Print production requiring one colour press (covers, numbered forms, simple brochures).
  • Finishing in a variety of styles:
    • perfect binding
    • drilling
    • stapling
    • spiral binding.
